La Du Zi

"La Du Zi" aka Diarrhea. In China, bowel movements are openly discussed in everyday conversation between family and friends. We were warned of this during orientation and thank god for that because my face would have been a freakshow of nasty expressions over the past week when complete and utter strangers would ask me about what I would usually consider to be a private matter. However, you know what they say "When in Rome..."

There, I am now officially a native. One thing worth mentioning, however, is that the Chinese have definitely perfected their diarrhea remedies. Like the rice cooker section at Best Buy, you will be sure to find a diarrhea section in any pharmacy or grocery store (should be right between the Pocky aisle and the chopstick aisle).

So I am at my internship right now. I finished all of my work and my boss doesn't have anything else for me to do and I feel bad for just leaving so I'm just sitting here. Sitting and sitting and sitting. And sitting. ... . ... and sitting. *Aiya!*

Speaking of work we (the other interns and I) just got back from our lunch break. We get a 500 RMB allowance for transportation and food. I'm not sure how often we get it though. It definitely would have come in useful just now. Right across the street there is the world's LARGEST Burberry store, Longchamp, and Rolex, to name a few. Needless to say we are in a pretty pricy part of Shanghai. My lunch was 28RMB for about three pieces of chicken. :( I wanted to go to the Coffee Bean (yes, the same one we have in America) after for a latte but I was still reeling from my overpriced lunch so I decided against it.

Another slew of pictures:
Carlos and I with the noodle guy across the street from our apartment. He is only there really late at night. That doesn't stop people though. He almost always has a line. So good!

On our way out for a night on the town. We found these little cans of deliciousness in the convenience store outside our apartment. Liquified Candy!
